The Other View

Issue No.9 Summer 2002

Editorial Committee

The average, casual reader of a newspaper or magazine pays little or no
attention to the work involved in producing an issue for publication. In
some ways it is taken for granted that the printed word just turns up bound
and ready for reading. It is a fact of modern, compartmentalised technology
and production that we tend to know little about how things are made or
where they come from - the old jibe about ' townies' thinking that milk comes
from bottles is not that far from reality.

Things are not that simple of course nor indeed is our magazine composed
without a good degree of hard work and effort.
One of the most important aspects of publishing this periodical is
editorial supervision. A responsible job on any publication, it takes on
added importance for a project such as The Other View ,with its commitment to
examining the divisions in Northern Irish society with honesty and at the
same time with an awareness for the sensitivities of many of the issues
discussed and debated in the magazine.

The regular editorial committee meetings are held in both Belfast and
Monaghan and are the strength of the project as topical subjects are
identified for coverage and thereafter agreement reached on how best to deal
with the various subjects.
