Cormac McAnallen
1980 – 2004

Although we part in sorrow, Cormac, you were bested in the gameLast Autumn we carried a light-hearted piece referring to the up-coming All -Ireland football final between Armagh and Tyrone. We were happy to carry a photograph of the Tyrone football star, Cormac McAnallen and his opponent on the day, Stephen McDonnell. We never imagined then that the next time we would carry a photograph of Cormac McAnallen it would be for his obituary. Cormac McAnallen was a gifted athlete and fine exponent of the arts of gaelic football. His very untimely death reminds us, however, that sport - even gloriously played at the highest level - must be put in context. The pleasures of the athletic contest pale in comparison with the heartbreak experienced by the family and friends of a fine young man.
